Set in central Africa, Alkebulan follows four main characters as they navigate through a web of criminality, deceit, revenge and greed. Highlighting issues of cultural identity, fractured belief systems, economic aspirations and the pervasive influence of foreign powers, we navigate the unforeseen consequences of a rapidly changing world in the lives of our characters, reflecting a larger narrative of modern Africa.

As power struggles between competing interests unfold, we are drawn into a matrix of crime lords, law enforcement, and the ordinary people caught in the crossfire, who find themselves reluctantly drawn into the shadows of criminality.

We are passionate about creating a narrative that entertains and sheds light on the African continent's diverse cultures and untold stories.

Jerome Arab, the creative force behind ALKEBULAN, boasts a multifaceted career spanning music, television, and theatre. A seasoned artist, he has contributed significantly to the entertainment industry, showcasing his versatility as a producer, director, actor, and musician. With over 50 theatre productions, numerous music collaborations, and the founding of Underrated Individuals Records (UI Records), Jerome's journey is marked by creativity and innovation. As the visionary director of ALKEBULAN, Jerome brings a wealth of experience, having crafted hundreds of songs, produced music videos, and co-created continental Urban TV shows. His artistic evolution is a testament to his commitment to pushing creative boundaries. ALKEBULAN, Jerome's magnum opus, transcends conventional storytelling, aiming to offer a transformative and culturally rich experience to audiences worldwide. Jerome Arab's extensive background, innovative spirit, and passion for storytelling position him as a visionary director ready to redefine the entertainment landscape with ALKEBULAN.

1st AD: David Kazadi

David Kazadi, a graduate of a prestigious UK film school, stands as a prominent figure in the film industry. As the founder of Kazadi Films, he currently serves as the 1st Assistant Director on the ongoing project, showcasing his multifaceted expertise in film, fine art, theatre, and design. Kazadi Films, established in Zambia, is dedicated to telling compelling African stories. Noteworthy works include his debut feature-length film, "Black Dollar," shot in Zambia, and his role as Series Director for "House 243" (2019) and Cinematographer for "16/03" (2017). Leading Kazadi Films, a UK-birthed production company, David Kazadi has produced and directed impactful projects such as "The Divorce Club" (TV Reality show), "The Secret Life of a Slay Queen" (TV Series), and "Bankers and Robbers" (game show). His commitment and vision are evident in his passion for challenging the status quo and dedication to sharing authentic African narratives globally.

D.O.P: John L. Demps Jr.

John L. Demps Jr., a seasoned cinematographer with a remarkable career spanning three decades, is celebrated for his impactful contributions to the film industry. Renowned for his keen visual storytelling, Demps has left an indelible mark with notable works such as "Menace II Society," "The Annihilation of Fish," and "Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives." His versatility and mastery shine through in projects like "Nine" (2023), "The Trade" (2023), and "Chief Daddy 2: Going for Broke" (2022), reflecting his commitment to pushing boundaries across diverse genres. Awarded for Best Cinematography at prestigious film festivals, Demps continues to elevate the industry with his rich and varied portfolio, encompassing TV series like "Shuga" (2018) and documentaries such as "Nat Turner: A Troublesome Property" (2003). Award-winning and Emmy-nominated Supporting Actress Brenda Ngxoli has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry, showcasing her versatility across stage, television, and film. Beginning her career in theatre with notable plays like "Pick Ups" and "Docs Wife," Ngxoli transitioned to television with a standout role in the SABC1 drama series "Home Affairs," earning widespread acclaim for her portrayal of "Vuyo Radebe." His pioneering efforts in elevating the Zambian TV and film industry are evident in the creation of ten television shows for M-net, along with documentaries and film-related projects. Serving as a Local Line Producer, Golden brings exceptional contributions to productions, seamlessly integrating local perspectives and enriching the narrative with authenticity. With eight years of experience at Outfarm Media Works, Golden Maiwanga continues to play a crucial role in shaping the cultural nuances unique to Zambia within the realm of TV and film.

Head of Makeup, prosthetics and hair:  Evelyn Gambe

Evelyn Gambe, Head of Prosthetics, Hair & Makeup, boasts an impressive three-decade career in the African film and television industry. Recognized for her outstanding work on mainstream productions like "King Shaka," "Blood and Water," and "Justice Served," Evelyn's expertise extends to makeup, hair, and prosthetics design. As a nominee for Best Achievement in Make-up and Hairstyling at the 2012 SAFTA Golden Horn, she has continually demonstrated creative leadership. In her role, she shapes and elevates narratives through innovative and transformative artistry. Recent projects include serving as the hair & makeup supervisor for "Spinners" (2023) and contributing as a key makeup artist for "Justice Served" (2022) and the short film "Waiting for Goldman" (2021). Evelyn's versatility is evident in her roles as a makeup designer for "Löwenzahn - Abenteuer in Südafrika" (2020) and as a hairstylist and makeup artist for "The Devil Speaks" (2018). With over a decade of experience in the fashion industry, he is a creative visionary, embracing the philosophy of "ichuma bantu" to emphasize people as wealth. Leading Londo Africa, one of the industry's fastest-growing brands, Musubila has collaborated with major corporations, celebrities, and filmmakers, earning recognition for his pursuit of perfection, attention to detail, and customer satisfaction. His diverse portfolio includes collaborations with brands like Airtel, MTN, DSTV, and more. Beyond fashion, Musubila actively contributes to rebranding and empowering Africa, distinguishing himself as a key influencer and visionary in the fashion landscape. His passion for design and commitment to excellence showcase him as a leader in shaping a unique and powerful narrative for Africa's fashion identity.

Head of sound: Maccoh Pingiriasi

Maccoh Pingiriasi, the Head of Sound, brings over a decade of experience as a seasoned location sound engineer. His notable contributions include diverse projects such as "Venus Flying Trap," "Warrior," and "Africana," showcasing his versatility and expertise. Maccoh has international exposure, contributing to projects like "Holiday in the Wild" alongside Kristin Davis and Rob Lowe. Recent works, including "Afrikas neue Museen," highlight his ongoing impact on the sound department. Music Supervisor: James Sakala

James Sakala, a prominent figure in the Zambian music industry, serves as a Music Supervisor with over two decades of diverse experience. Recognized as an ethnic music singer, producer, guitarist, percussionist, and songwriter, Sakala's extensive collaborations with both local and international artists highlight his versatility and skill. His notable discography, including collaborations with Sampa The Great and the late Oliver Mtukudzi, reflects his influence beyond national borders. In his role as a Music Supervisor, Sakala brings a deep understanding of Zambia's musical tapestry, enriching the soundscapes of the projects he oversees. With key skills in music supervision, collaboration, ethnic music expertise, and songwriting, Sakala contributes significantly to the vibrant musical landscape of Zambia.

Her notable role as the production manager on the award-winning Zambian reality TV show "King Bugar," which follows local celebrity and rapper Macky 2, underscores her expertise and valuable contributions to the success of prominent television projects.

Cosmas Ng'andwe, a versatile and vibrant force in the Zambian arts industry, serves as an integral member of associations such as the National Theatre Arts Association of Zambia (NATAAZ) and the Comedians Association of Zambia (COAZ), holding esteemed positions as National Publicity Secretary and National Treasurer. Recognised for his compelling performances, including roles as Benson Logic Jere in "MpalI" and Chilala in "Mfuti," Cosmas is not only an accomplished actor but also a skilled writer, director, and producer. A graduate of the MultiChoice Talent Factory, Cosmas received nominations and awards, including the Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards and the Diamond TV Personality of the Year Award for Best Actor. Thomas Pierce, an LA-based independent filmmaker, actor, and director, brings over a decade of experience and a genuine passion for nurturing talent. Notable for his role in "Dallas Blair" (2019–2022), a TV series with six episodes, and his performance in "The Nomads" (2019) alongside Tate Donovan and Tika Sumpter. His diverse contributions include the short film "Hotline NYC" (2018), where he appeared as Ty Blanco. In the TV series "I, Witness" (2017), he portrayed a Thuggish Teen in one episode. Thomas has also ventured into production roles, serving as a producer for "The Legend of RJJ" (2022), "American Hero" (2022), and "Kill File" (2021). Vimbai Chingosho, a seasoned Creative Director with six years of global experience, brings a diverse skill set to our team. Her work encompasses fashion design, web design, photography, and videography, demonstrating a commitment to ethical and sustainable practices. During her apprenticeship at Suzaan Hynes Studio, she managed production teams for corporate orders and contributed to private client projects. In her role as Costume Designer for The G&S Society, she played a vital role in theatre productions. Vimbai's achievements include participation in Fashion Open Studio for COP26 in 2021, Fashion Open Studio 2020, and being a modeconnect YourView Finalist in 2015. Her forward-thinking approach and commitment to ethical design make her an invaluable asset to our creative endeavours.

Andrew Bukama aka Drew, is a seasoned Zambian graphics professional with a passion for storytelling through art. Drawing since childhood, art has always been Drew's escape from reality. With four years of experience as a professional graphic designer and illustrator, Drew brings a unique perspective to every project. Inspired by the people and culture around him, Drew's art captures the essence of human experience. He not only contributes to the music industry by creating album and music cover art but also aspires to share stories through mediums like comic books and graphic novels. Drew's work is a reflection of his commitment to showcasing the diverse narratives of life and the world around us.

Jessica Bwali

Jessica Bwali is a Zambian journalist and climate activist who brings multifaceted expertise to the intersection of media and environmental advocacy. She has worked professionally as a newscaster, radio personality, voice-over artist and producer in her native Zambia. Bwali later interned in Germany as a media officer for the World Communion of Reformed Churches. Most recently, as an African ambassador to COP26 and certified climate activist with The University of Oxford Climate Society, she offers rare insight into the climate justice movement from an African perspective. Her robust background in African media paired with international climate change experience at the highest levels provides a one-of-a-kind understanding.

Dr. Duraid Jalili

Dr Duraid Jalili is a leader in security studies and risk analysis, ranging from global strategic trends to local conflict dynamics. As a security lecturer at King's College London and academic advisor to senior military officials worldwide, he provides access to networks of government and academic experts, and evidence-based insights on critical trends and variables influencing the lives of our characters, from paramilitary methods through to the influence of foreign powers.

 J. Jesús Esquivel

J. Jesús Esquivel, an investigative journalist and author of impactful works, lends his insights to the project. As the Bureau Chief of Proceso Magazine in Mexico, a White House Correspondent, and a seasoned Mexican Correspondent in Washington, Esquivel offers a global perspective. His contributions guide the series in understanding the complex connections between the African continent and the world of narcotics, providing crucial insights for an authentic portrayal.
